Headed up by the Centre Manager, Bernie Ryan and Clinical Director, Dr Catherine White, the Centre has continued to grow from strength to strength. In 2006 the Centre opened a child specific sexual assault service creating a new fully integrated adult and children’ SARC service for victims of rape and sexual assault.
By learning from experience and responding to the needs of clients the service has developed and now includes:
Crisis Workers providing immediate support at the point of initial contact for clients. This is both during examinations and support via our 24 hour telephone support and information line.
Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) to advocate on behalf of the victims; support through the criminal justice process and facilitate access to other healthcare services.
Child Advocates who work specifically with children and their families. They provide support and ensure follow-on services are accessible to support them in the aftermath of child sexual abuse.
Counsellors providing therapeutic services for victims to understand the impact of the assault on their lives and enable them to regain control and move forward.
Forensic Physicians, the centre now has a team of 28 female forensic physicians working both during office hours and out of hours to meet the forensic and therapeutic medical needs of those requiring our services.
Paediatrician who provides follow-on medical services to our child clients and facilitates the peer review of child sexual abuse cases.
A day in the Life – information currently being updated.
The service is supported by administrators and a Training and Development Officer.
